5 TERRITORIES TO PICNIC WITH IGP MÉDITERRANÉE !
The unique aspect of our IGP Méditerranée ? It spans a vast territory covering the entire Southeast. You can find it in the north, in Ardèche, as well as in the south, in Marseille. Ready for a gourmet road trip through the most beautiful spots in France?
1° The Gorges of Ardèche
The Gorges of Ardèche are breathtaking ! With vibrant waters and majestic rocks, everything is set for a few hours of admiring the view. The scenery may take your breath away, but not your appetite! In the picnic basket, a bottle of Baie d’Azur rosé from Vignerons Ardéchois and some homemade Ardèche caillettes. This fresh Grenache/Syrah rosé pairs wonderfully with the retro-chic pâté made from chard and pork.
2° The Ancient Ruins of Vaison la Romaine
You don’t have to be a history enthusiast to imagine how things were in the past. The ruins of Vaison la Romaine offer a peaceful setting, but in the once bustling Vilasse district, shops lined the streets. Enjoy the game while picnicking with a white wine from Cave La Romaine, a lovely blend of Chardonnay and Viognier, perfect with croquants de Carpentras (almond and olive cookies) and crespeou, a cold omelette cake, both specialties of the Vaucluse region.
3°The Château de Grignan
In Drôme Provençale, the Château de Grignan offers an incredible panorama. It overlooks the region, offering views as far as the Dentelles de Montmirail to the south. The château is open for tours, and until the end of August, a night show is offered. Enjoy the sunset before heading to the show, opening a well-stocked basket and admiring the view. In the glass, the rosé Muse from Domaine de Montine, and in hand, a sandwich with Picodon, the round goat cheese from the region, and a pogne de Romans, a crown-shaped brioche flavored with orange blossom.
4° The Old Ochre Quarries in the Apt Valley
It feels like Colorado, but no, we are in the Luberon! With stones ranging from yellow to red, these old ochre quarries are as surprising as they are fascinating. Many marked trails have been set up, perfect for walking or biking. Take a break along one of them to recharge. The 100 % Merlot rosé from Marrenon pairs beautifully with local products: Cavaillon melon, Banon goat cheese, the famous tapenade, and for dessert, the candied fruits from Apt (the World Capital of Candied Fruit!).
5° The Calanques of Marseille
The Marseille region is full of calanques! Small or large, hidden or easily accessible, find your favorite. Don’t forget to bring something to quench your thirst (in moderation), like Florie from Vignerons du Roy René, a white wine with exotic fruit notes and a round palate. Pair it with anchoïade, shrimp dipped in aioli, and brousse du Rove to spread.
